My sister-in-law Carlie and brother Scott threw us a baby shower this weekend at our house. It was a fun afternoon with lots of family and friends. Carlie is a fantastic party planner, so there were decorations, a color theme, and good food.
One of the highlights was the ‘Guess the Baby Food’ game, where Travis and I sampled various unlabeled baby foods and tried to guess what they were.
This is much harder than at seems as all baby food is 1. mushy 2. a revolting brown or green colon 3. almost tasteless.
We might have correctly identified 3 of 10 or so jars. The most puzzling foods to identify were the green vegetable – I guessed peas, Travis thought it was broccoli, but it was actually green beans. The macaroni and cheese was had the worst flavor of all of them – I thought it tasted like paste and Travis thought it tasted like flour and water. We had no idea it was supposed to be mac & cheese. The meat blends were also a challenge to figure out – Chicken?
Turkey? Beef? Who’s to say. Then there were the chicken sticks. These are like tiny hotdogs for babies. I’m pretty sure that Scott and I ate these on a regular basis when we were little and absolutely loved them. Now that I have adult tastes… they’re really terrible. Essence of chicken, soft, and weirdly wet. Travis ate his in 1 bite, but also didn’t seem to enjoy it much. Photos are forthcoming for anyone who wants to see the taste-tester’s expressions.
Now I understand why some people make their own baby food.
