40 week update = No baby yet

June 26, 2007
Filed under: Baby Dunbar, Blog — Kerry @ 10:19 am

Had my 40 week
OB appointment today and Travis came with me.  The short version is no baby yet.  Longer version: 50% effaced and 1-2 cm dilated. This seems to be less than last week, but we’ll just call it interobserver measurement variability.  I got my ‘membranes stripped’ today, which is not nearly as gruesome as it sounds.  Basically they scoot some of the amniotic sac away from the wall of the uterus. This increases prostaglandin release, which helps increase contractions. We’ll see. The bumpy roads, jalapenos, etc don’t seem to be helping things along, so it was definitely worth a try.  If no baby by July 5th, then I get induced.

The maternal grandparents (names still yet to be determined) sent Baboo a package yesterday!!   Baboo was very excited!  He/she can’t wait to read Goodnight Moon.   We’re hoping reading skills will be attained by approximately 6 months.  :-)

I am the nap queen

Filed under: Baby Dunbar, Blog — Kerry @ 6:34 am

Now that I get up 5-6 times a night to pee, napping has become more important. I also keep getting suggestions/advice from people to sleep as much as I can now, as it will be 18 years before I get another good night’s sleep.  Lately (mainly this weekend and Monday), my supernap abilities have returned. This ability allows me to fall asleep in seconds, as soon as I’m flat or in a good napping place.  Saturday, I fell asleep waiting for Travis to finish his shower (which is only a few minutes total) with one foot propped on the edge of a plastic laundry basket and woke up 2 hours later with my foot still balanced on the basket.  Sunday, I fell asleep in the time it took for  Travis to fill out a birthday card and woke up an hour later.  Both times with contact lenses in, earrings on, fully dressed.  It kinda brings me back to my intern year of medicine, when I worked 100 hours a week.  I could fall asleep really quickly then too.  Maybe it’s good practice for being a parent?  Who knows.
