TV invasion

An Emily fact:  I have never at any point during my 28 years had a television in my bedroom.  Even during the year I lived in a dorm as a college freshman– my roommate and I were the ONLY ones in the whole dorm who didn’t have a TV, I bet.  (We also were the only roommate pair that had no cars among us.  It was a difficult year.)  With the carpet installation, however, we had to move a bunch of stuff up from the downstairs and the guest room TV and DVD player ended up in our room for a temporary stay.

Another Emily fact:  I am obsessive about watching TV shows that I Netflix.  Last night, we ate dinner (and pondered briefly eating it in bed since we often watch TV while eating and the main TV hadn’t been hooked back up yet), and then I proceeded to lie in the bed and watch:  FOUR episodes of The Office (3 of which were super-sized) along with 2 episodes of Big Love.  Since I wanted to send back the discs today, I started my morning with the 3rd episode of Big Love.  So in a span of 13 hours, I think I spent 8 of it sleeping and 5 of it watching TV shows on DVD.  Probably not a great habit.  We’ll be taking the TV back to the guest room tonight!

Final Emily fact that has nothing to do with anything:  I don’t do matches.  I think one time Seth made me light one and it was horrible.  Never again.

  1. You are so funny! We don’t have a TV in the bedroom either. The bedroom is for sleeping, reading, and other non-TV-based things. We also watch TV shows on Netflix, particularly now that we aren’t out at the movies as much (don’t think Owen would like the movies as he hates the dark). We watched 2 episodes of Arrested Development, which is really funny. This is also how I watched most of Lost, and we just started Firefly (cowboys in space? actually kinda good). The British version of the Office is really good and we have the whole series if you ever want to see it!

You can’t use matches, I can’t use a lighter. They scare me and I can’t make them work.

  2. Oh, I don’t do lighters, either. (Don’t you know–FIRE KILLS??) The only flame-throwing device I can use is one of those lighter-things that has a 6-inch barrel so I am nowhere near the flame. This fear is the ONLY reason I don’t maintain a 2-pack a day smoking habit– I’d look pretty silly trying to light my ciggies with a flame-thrower. :-)

  3. Yeah for Firefly! I really wish that show had lasted longer. It had quite a cult following, but networks don’t seem to care much about cult followings (except that they did surprisingly make a movie of it (Serenity)).

  4. Ok….this totally makes me think of everyone crowding in our room freshman year to watch television. Ah! Warm Fuzzies of 4N! =)
It also makes me want to applaud you for no TV in the bedroom as a married couple….it kills the passion! I won’t allow one in our room either!
